Curtis Night Live

 

 

Welcome to Curtis Night Live! A Sketch Comedy/Improv Group founded this School year of 2022-2023. We're a merry band of characters who love Comedy, Writing, Directing, Acting, and Performing. We have since performed 3 seasons, with our attention now focused on Season 4. Each of us bring our own unique talents to the table, and we make room for each member to shine and thrive. Not only do we learn the Intricacies of Improvisational Comedy and Sketch Comedy, but we create our own and perform it live in Studio 407. We also make Sketch Comedy Videos, and we have our own YouTube Channel/Instagram where we feature that work. Click on the links below to see our work this year. Since our founding, we've gone on to accomplish quite a bit. 

 

 

-1st Fully Student Written/ Student Directed Theatrical Club. 

-In 2023, Curtis Night Live performed in the East Coast Improv Games, where schools from all 5 boroughs, Long Island, and Boston met to compete against each other for the overall 1st Place Winner. Curtis Night Live came in 2nd place for the NYC round. 

 

-Also in 2023, Curtis Night Live was asked to Host/Emcee the NYC Department of Education Staten Island Borough Arts Festival for the Performing Arts showcase at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, NY. --Almost All of Curtis Night Live shows are performed in our very own Black Box theatre on the 4th Floor of Curtis High School. A Small, intimate space that really captures the spirit and focus of our comedy. In 2024 (Season 2) and in 2025 (Season 3), we really put a lot of effort into our YouTube channel, and created memorable sketches. "The Suggestion Box", "Therapy without Therapists", and "Don't Fall Asleep in Class" Check out our channel here. All sketches were created by the students, and filmed by the students as well. 

 

 

 

-In 2025, Curtis Night Live brought it's skills as Emcee to the Annual Curtis High School Winter Arts Festival. A showcase in the arts of all of the Performing Arts/Visual Arts Disciplines. Theatre, Dance, and Music groups perform, and Student Art Work is on full display as well. Curtis Night Live took to hosting the event, and gently ushered in each and every act. 

 

-Also In 2025, Curtis Night Live applied to the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre's "Spank" Program. The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre was founded by Comedic Legends, Amy Poehler, Matt Walsh, Matt Besser, and Ian Roberts. It's a program for aspiring Sketch Comedy Groups to apply to audition at the UCB Theatre where UCB brass decides whether or not to produce your show and give you a theatrical run. CNL was invited, performed, and although UCB passed on our show, we did receive quite a few compliments from their management and were grateful for the experience. After all, the program is not for High School students. CNL actually competed against Adults trying to get a show.
