Dear Parents/Guardians:
The safety of our staff and students is of the utmost importance and, as such, I am writing to inform you of an important update regarding our school’s safety procedures. Beginning on September 22, 2026, Curtis High School will become a full-time scanning school.
Full-time scanning is a proactive safety measure to support a secure, orderly, and safe school environment. Items prohibited under the NYCPS Discipline Code (including weapons and dangerous instruments) are not permitted in school and will be confiscated, with disciplinary and/or intervention consequences as appropriate.
For more information on prohibited items, please review the NYCPS Discipline Code. These scanning procedures will apply to all individuals entering the building, including students and visitors, and will be in effect during all after-school activities, extracurricular programs, and any events in the building during evenings and weekends. Additional information regarding arrival procedures and expectations will be shared with students and staff to support a smooth transition.
We appreciate your cooperation and continued partnership in maintaining a safe and supportive learning community. We have our first PTA meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 6:15pm at which I will discuss this change in procedures and answer any questions that you may have.
