English as a New Language

“Language shapes the way we think, and determines what we can think about.”

 -Benjamin Lee Whorf

The English as a New Language program is the foundation for the English language mastery. English language learners learn to effectively use English, and academic strategies through provided resources and opportunities that develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students develop these skills by following an intensive sequence in English which features developmental language, Integrated ENL and English Language Arts.

The ENL department prepares English language learners to a level appropriate for college readiness as they also participate in the content areas of math, science and social studies. These courses are taught using ENL methodologies and materials. Upon readiness, students will also study a foreign or native language.
