BEGINNING VOCAL  - FALL & SPRING SEMESTERS
This course is year long and is broken into fall and spring semesters. We begin with a focus on the development of basic vocal techniques and skills including: good posture, tone quality, breath support, diction, and attack and release. Attention is given to the understanding and practice of basic elements of music including music reading skills. that will be given. This is considered an entry level class. No experience is necessary! 
ADVANCED VOCAL - FALL & SPRING SEMESTERS
This year is a continuation of the good habits developed in beginning vocals.  Students will have the opportunity to sing in foreign languages while studying a variety of styles of choral music. Vocal independence is emphasized in the performance opportunities that will be given.

BEGINNING BAND - Fall Semester
Students and teachers will collaborate to choose one instrument from the woodwind family (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon), brass instruments (trumpet, French horn, trombone,  tuba), or percussion for the student to study.  The semester will focus on the care and maintenance of the instrument, fundamental techniques of tone production, fundamental rhythms, and learning music notation.

BEGINNING BAND  - Spring Semester
The year continues with a review of music fundamentals.  We work on the expressive aspects of performance such as dynamics, articulation, and phrasing.  Focus is on building sight-reading skills through the use of concert band literature that is in a variety of styles and levels of difficulty.  We strive to arrive at a better understanding of world cultures, history, and other forms of art through music.

CONCERT BAND - Fall & Spring Semesters
This course is designed to give each student an enriching and diverse instrumental music education. This class provides a number of performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. The objective of the course is to foster and promote the musical growth of each student. As a member of the band program, group effort and cooperation is necessary to a successful program. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout every semester. 
 

JAZZ LAB BAND 1 OF 4 - Fall Semester
This semester, the students will use academic language to describe musical events and concepts. They will learn to demonstrate, through performance, an understanding of how the elements of jazz music interact to achieve an expressive effect. Students will improve their skills in individual part playing. They will also learn some jazz history, jazz theory and jazz performance.
JAZZ LAB BAND 2 OF 4 - Spring Semester
This semester is a continuation of the fall semester.  Additionally, students will be able to balance and blend their individual parts within their section. We will continue to Improve enhanced music reading skills.  Students will demonstrate knowledge of different jazz styles and the means to express themselves artistically.
JAZZ BAND 3 OF 4 - Fall Semester
Building on the skills already learned, students will execute jazz rhythms and articulations, melodic phrases and harmonic structures, improving their skills as improvisers.
JAZZ BAND 4 OF 4 - Spring Semester
Students continue to build on their abilities to perform a variety of jazz styles and participate as a member of a team, making a contribution to the group effort. They will continue to learn advanced music theory, including all jazz and blues scales, the circle of fifths, the chromatic scale and jazz rhythms.

SYMPHONIC BAND - Fall & Spring Semesters
This class will study a large repertoire of wind literature and will train students in advancing their musical skills. This group will also provide appropriate, quality musical programs for the school and community. To qualify for this ensemble, each student must be judged proficient on his/her instrument by the directors. All students must meet or exceed the semester  objectives set forth by the director to continue in the Symphonic Band class.
SYMPHONIC BAND - Fall & Spring Semesters
As we continue to explore and expand our repertoire, it is important to note that we will not merely be playing instruments in this course, but rather learning the language of music through performance. As such, a significant portion of  work in this course will be devoted to refining  performance skills, increasing your ability to read new music at sight, and exploring what it means to be an all-encompassing musician. 

BEGINNING GUITAR - Fall Semester 
Our introductory guitar class begins with an overview of the guitar; string and finger numbers and tuning.  The focus of this semester is on chords; understanding how to read chord charts and symbols, chord progressions, playing in time with smooth transitions between chords and playing different rhythms with the right hand.
BEGINNING GUITAR - Spring Semester 
We continue our exploration of the guitar by learning how to read both tablature and standard notation.  Students learn notes in the first position, and how to move up the fretboard via TAB.  We explore how to read music for 2 and 3 guitar parts, in preparation for playing as an ensemble.
INTERMEDIATE GUITAR - Fall Semester
The semester begins with a review of open chords, TAB and standard notation. We continue to build on the chords we have learned, in addition to learning barre chords.  We continue our exploration of guitar ensemble music reading in both standard notation and TAB. Fingerpicking is introduced with an exploration of classical guitar playing and styles.
INTERMEDIATE GUITAR - Spring Semester
We continue with a dive into music theory and how it pertains to chord building and moving along the fretboard.  Travis picking style, arranging for solo guitar and alternate tunings are explored as we continue to build our classical guitar and ensemble foundation.

GUITAR ENSEMBLE 5 of 8 - Fall Semester
Guitar Ensemble is a performance class.  We continue to explore various fingerstyle techniques and classical styles. Students explore ensemble music made up of pop and classical tunes.The fall semester culminates with a performance at the Winter Arts Festival
GUITAR ENSEMBLE 6 OF 8 - Spring Semester
The year continues with an exploration into ensemble music containing both rock and classical themes.  The spring semester culminates with our Spring Concert. 
GUITAR ENSEMBLE 7 OF 8- Fall Semester
Guitar Ensemble is a performance class.  We continue to explore various fingerstyle techniques and classical styles. Students explore ensemble music made up of pop and classical tunes.The fall semester culminates with a performance at the Winter Arts Festival
